The Swine Flu Outbreak of 2009 is considered to have originated from a pig farm in Mexico this past March & April. This new strain of the influenza virus of Mexican origin has now spread into a worldwide pandemic. U.S. health officials from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta are concerned because multiple cases of documented influenza virus appeared in California towns bordering he USA.
The Swine Flu In Mexico claimed it first death on April 13, 2009, when a 39-year -old woman died from influenza complications in the state of Oaxaca, a city south of the capital Mexico City.
Because of the swine flu deaths in Mexico, Health officials quickly identified the woman as Adela Maria Gutierrez Cruz. She was not the first case of documented Swine Virus. A young Mexican child tested positive for the Swine Flu Virus earlier in the year. The child was from an area near Perote, Mexico. A location in the Vericuz state known for multiple pig-breeding farms. The boy survived the new strain of influenza.
Swine Flu in Mexico is thought to have originated near a swine farm partly owned by the Virginia, USA based Smithfield Foods. Smithfield Foods is the largest U.S. producer of hogs. Smithfield Foods issued a statement claiming "no clinical signs or symptoms of Swine Flu were found in the company's swine herd or employees associated with its joint ventures in Mexico".
Swine Flu in Mexico has infected over a 1000 people. A few cases of H1N1 Influenza have been confirmed along the Mexico - California border. The CDC and WHO (World Health Organization) are racing to record and contain this new strain of influenza before a pandemic outbreak infects the United States.
The Swine Flu in Mexico has also caused many cases of death. Although the numbers regarding cases of Swine Virus death vary depending on the source. organizations that have a vested interested in positive numbers, such as the tourism trade in Mexico place the number low and entities with no vested interest in Mexico such as The Centers for Disease Control and The World Heath Organization estimate much higher. The current death rate related to Swine Flu Virus Infection exceeds 4,000 globally.
There is no Swine Flu Vaccine available yet, though testing of one is currently in human trials.
