swine flu cases in California
Swine Flu In California has surfaced again after the start of the school season. This new strain of swine flu, named "novel H1N1 virus", is reported to have entered California through immigrants from Mexico. Swine Flu In Mexico was isolated in late April 2009 and early May 2009. As of September 15 2009, there have been over 2,000 hospitalizations and 167 cases of death attributed to swine flu in California.Swine Flu In California is expected to kill "thousands and thousand this fall" according to a recent press conference statement by current Govenor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Although some in the press believe Gov. Schwarzenegger is fear-mongering, California is prime for a dangerous pandemic outbreak. California could be the "perfect storm" of the Swine Flu Virus.
Swine Flu in California could devastate their populations because of many variables:
- California has one of the USA's largest Hispanic populations. Currently, about 90% of swine flu deaths involved people of Hispanic origin.
- California is also home to the largest Chinese population in the United States. With many Chinese traveling back and forth to China, their is a possibility of the Bird Avian Flu mixing with the current H1N1 virus and mutating into a completely new virus. Then a new Swine Flu Vaccine would have to be produced. Thousands could die before the development of a new swine flu vaccination could take place.
- California is home to three of the United States most prominent International Airports. San Francisco, Oakland & Los Angeles are home to busy airports that operate around the clock bringing possible flu viruses in from other countries.
- Because of HIV & AIDS, California has one of the United States immunity compromised populations. People with compromised immune systems can get deathly sick just from a common cold. Many cases of death could result from the Swine Flu Virus.
Swine Flu in California could harshly impact the general population. California hospitals are well equipped to handle sepsis related situations and this one fact alone will save many lives. But at what cost. It is common knowledge that California is on the brink of insolvency. Only time will tell when it comes to the effects of swine flu in California.
